Born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, Shelby spent most of his years in the Midwest. In 2003 he received his BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art in St. Louis and an MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2006. Shelby is currently an Associate Professor in the Art Department at the University of Wyoming.
Shelby actively exhibits across the nation and was recently featured in the International Drawing Annual 5, 6 and 9 publications through the Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnatti, OH where he also had a solo show in February, 2013. Shelby has a solo exhibition scheduled at the APEX space of the Portland Art Musuem from November 2015 through February 2016.
